FAQ: “What do EN 50155 and e1 mean for door sensors?”

In the datasheets for the Trafficon series, you will find references such as EN 50155 or the type approval e1/E1 . These represent two different, but equally important, approvals:

  • EN 50155 describes requirements for electronic devices in railway vehicles – including temperature range, shock/vibration resistance and EMC stability.
  • e1/E1 denotes approval according to StVZO/ECE regulations for use in road vehicles.

For transport companies and vehicle manufacturers, this means:
tested robustness in the railway environment and compliant integration into road vehicles.

Good to know

The following products have both approvals – EN 50155 and e1/E1 :

  • TrafficonLine
  • TrafficonLine Comfort
  • TraffiContact

This offers maximum flexibility – e.g. for use in combined bus and rail fleets or cross-manufacturer vehicle platforms .

We will gladly clarify in the project which standards are crucial in your specific scenario – and provide the appropriate documentation.
