System structure 

The Auto²Scan Color consists of a high-resolution color camera, a powerful Raspberry Pi 5 for control and image processing, vehicle identification (e.g., license plate recognition or barcode scanner), and a robust drive-over structure. Image capture starts automatically as soon as a vehicle drives over the system, and the image appears in real time on a connected device (PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone). Operation is via the auto2scan software, which runs on the Raspberry Pi 5¹ and is accessible through a web browser.

  • Digital color GigE camera with 2K resolution (2046 pixels) and wide-angle lens
  • Lighting with: 40 SMD LEDs (white) with focusing optics, 
  • Two sensors for start and stop detection.
  • Available as a mobile version (up to 3.5 t) or a stationary version (up to 12.5 t).

¹ The Raspberry Pi 5 is a powerful single-board computer from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, released in October 2023. Featuring a 2.4 GHz quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, and a VideoCore VII GPU, it offers a 2- to 3-fold performance increase over its predecessor. Equipped with PCIe 2.0, USB 3.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual 4Kp60 HDMI output, it is ideal for safety-critical applications.

How it works

The image capture starts automatically as soon as a vehicle drives over the system. The color camera records the vehicle's undercarriage as it moves across the system. The captured color image, along with the license plate number or VIN, is displayed in real time on a device (PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone) connected to the Raspberry Pi 5 via Wi-Fi or LAN. The Auto²Scansoftware, installed on the Raspberry Pi 5, allows for control and image processing (currently only available to us, as it is not configurable via a GUI). After capture, the image can be downloaded as a JPG file via a web browser and used further.
